General Inspections’s 3D laser gaging system is designed to replace manual gages, such as micrometers, calipers, ring gages and optical comparators. 3D modeling, three-wire thread graphics and other graphical displays are designed to to remove human error from setups and inspections.

After scanning the part, virtually all dimensions, including lengths, diameters, radii, angles and external thread measurements, are displayed in a few seconds, accurate to less than a few microns, the company says. Out-of-tolerance features are highlighted in red. A complete roster of dimensions is displayed for entry into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. After tolerances are assigned with the appropriate part number, they can be stored in memory for quick recall when that part is to be reinspected.
