Siemens’ Sinumerik 808D Advanced CNC offers a range of design features said to improve the accuracy, surface finish, safety and communication of the control for basic milling and turning machines. The Sinumerik 808D Advanced T model is designed for basic turning centers or turning centers without a Y axis and includes an option for driven tools, while the Sinumerik 808D Advanced M offers advanced surface finish and Sinamics V70 drive platform from Siemens. Vertical and horizontal configurations are available to suit all standard control panels.

The CNC offers as many as five axes on a single machine channel. Drive bus communication between the CNC and drive is said to improve position control and data transfer over standard Ethernet protocol, while Auto Servo Tuning (AST) enables improved surface finish quality and repeatable workpiece accuracy in mold and die applications. An incremental encoder accommodates 2,500 parts per revolution, while an absolute encoder offers 20-bit resolution.

The CNC includes an RJ45 Ethernet port, 7.5" LCD color display with 640 × 480 resolution, an enclosure with no fan or hard disk, LED tool number display and maintenance-friendly power with no battery. A master control panel features a rotary switch for feed and spindle override. The rated torque is 1.9 to 40 Nm with drive line input of 400 V and overload rating of 300 percent. Motor speeds ranging to 4,000 rpm are possible with Safe Torque Off and IP65 enclosure protection.

Programs can be managed on an external PC, then fed to the control over an Ethernet cable or input via the USB port, and simple program sub-folders can be stored on the control. Additional features include intelligent jog, precise tool data handling with onscreen icons, too-wear data logging to ensure consistent workpiece quality and startGUIDE engineering support with a graphical user interface wizard for easier machine commissioning, startup and troubleshooting.
