Modern Machine Shop
The Open-XL CNC platform for milling machines from OSAI Prima Electro is a modular system with servo-controlled axes and I/O modules distributed on a digital fieldbus. This real-time control unit is based on a PC platform and is equipped with an axis control board and I/Os. The CNC is a complete entry-level system that can be supplied as a black-box configuration, integrated with a 15" thin film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT LCD) in a compact panel.
The control platform includes conversational programming for milling machines. The software features “fill-in-the-blank” cycles for drilling, milling and the OSAI Geometry Editor (OGE). This geometry editor can create profiles with lines, arcs and preset shapes such as rectangles. Users can input known data and auto-calculate the unknown data to complete the element configuration. It is also possible to import DXF files and generate G-code programs.
For OEM implementation of this CNC, Prima Electro has chosen Sigma5-SD drives and motors by Yaskawa. These drives deliver a multi-drive system with power regeneration, bi-axis control, spindle drives and motors. This choice gives creates a strong hardware/software combination for entering the metalworking marketplace, the company says.
