Absolute Machine Tools will display the Tongtai Q5 gang-type CNC lathe, engineered for fast production of small workpieces. In addition to a 1" (25-mm), through-spindle bar capacity, the machine features a 6,000-rpm, 7.5-hp (5.6-kW) spindle motor, and offers a rapid traverse rate of 1,181 ipm. An 8,000-rpm spindle is also available as an option. The turning center’s straightforward gang tooling and lack of subspindle further promote fast machining. Tool capacity, depending on the workpiece being processed, is 4 to 6 ID or OD tools. The machine occupies a 60" × 75" (1,490 × 1,870-mm) compact footprint.
Optional automation systems can improve the machine’s productivity. One configuration combines a bar feeder, part catcher and part conveyor. For longer-term, higher-volume automated production, eight-pallet or two-pallet gantry-loader-type part stockers are available to handle parts ranging to 2" (50 mm) in diameter and 1.5" (38 mm) in length.
