The HU100A-5XL machining center from Mitsui Seiki is designed for large aerospace and power generation parts. It features an X-Y-Z work zone capacity of 2,000 × 1,750 × 1,400 mm and accommodates workpieces weighing as much as 11,000 pounds (5,000 kg).
The machine is based on a set of standard modular components that can be arranged to suit specific needs. Axis travels range from 1,300 to 2,500 mm. The machine also features four, five, or six axes of continuous motion and a choice of a rotary table, trunnion table, or table-on-table models.
Fixed spindles range from 6,000 rpm (50 hp and 2,000 foot-pounds torque) for heavy milling applications to 20,000 rpm for high-speed applications. Tilt or swivel spindle choices are available from 6,000 rpm for heavy milling to 12,000 rpm for high speed machining. The company also offers quill-type spindles for precision boring with shorter tools. Toolhandling systems range from on-board magazines to central systems for more than 2,500 tools.
Other features include maximum spindle torque of 2,000 foot-pounds, CAT-50 tool taper, dual pallet changer, an automatic workpiece/fixture measuring and compensation system, non-contact laser tool setting device, 3D tool compensation, dynamic feature offset and a Fanuc 30iM control.
