Mahr Federal has added wireless data transmission capabilities to its MarCal 16 EWRi digital calipers with a low-power, built-in transmitter. According to the company, this built-in technology eliminates the need for add-on transmitters that can make gages bulky, limit portability and increase power usage The calipers are capable of sending data via the transmitter to a small i-stick receiver resembling a USB flash drive. Once the i-stick is plugged in, the indicator is identified by signal coding in the MarCom software to avoid confusion in the signals. Each i-stick wireless receiver can support eight measuring instruments with a range as large as 12 m, suitable for most benchtop or workstation applications.

The digital calipers have been redesigned with an easier-to-read digital display, lapped guideways and a reference system that retains the zero-position setting. Successful data transmission is confirmed with a message on the display. Users are able to take a measurement and transmit data directly into Microsoft Excel or into any Windows program via a keyboard code without the use of cables. According to the company, it is possible to apply the calipers’ wireless data-collection capabilities to existing SPC applications. A range of caliper sizes are available.
