The HD1-1500 BTA deep-hole drilling machine features a quick-change component clamping system and is capable of drilling holes measuring 80 mm in diameter that are 1,500-mm deep at high penetration rates.

Powered by a 42-kW motor, the drill head speed is fully programmable between 100 and 2,600 rpm with a developed thrust of 37.7 kN. Counterrotation between the drill head and workpiece also is available to maximize concentricity between the bore created by the tool and the OD of the component. Rapid traverse rates are 6 m/min.

The BTA or single-tube system feeds high-pressure coolant between the bore created by the tool and the outside of the drill tube and cutting head. Chips are evacuated from the drilling zone and forced back for collection by the continued return flow of coolant through the center of the drill. The detachable drill head features individual carbide inserts and a series of external guide pads that support the tool as it penetrates the material. This ensures quality surface finish, the company says.

The machine features a 2,000- × 610-mm cast iron worktable with hardened and ground slideways that carry the workhead and drill head. Hydraulic pressure heads automatically advance the drill guide bush. Coolant delivery can be programmed for flow between 0 and 300 L/min.
