The CoolPulse ECM machine developed by Extrude Hone removes internal and external micro-burrs from metallic components, while also smoothing and polishing surfaces. The machine has been designed for two different modes of operation, with rapid selective change-over from one to the other. The ECM system is designed not only for “bath operation” but also for “benchtop operation” with the aid of a deburring fixture. In “bath operation” the workpiece is fully immersed in the electrolyte solution during the process. This results in all of the external surfaces being deburrred and polished in a single work cycle. The flow rate of the electrolyte is controlled by an agitator unit that provides the workpieces with a reciprocating motion within the tank. In addition, the electrolyte is also kept in continuous motion by blowing compressed air through the bottom of the tank. This has a positive effect on the machining quality and prevents flow lines and deposits on the workpiece, the company says.
The system is available with a power rating of 12 or 24 kW. Also included in the scope of supply of the basic module is a filter module for continuous cleaning of the electrolyte and a chiller unit which keeps the electrolyte at the required operating temperature.
