Precision Electrolytic Machining (PEM) systems use an electrolysis-based process to create intricate shapes with a burr-free surface finish as low as 1 micro inch Ra, the company says. An alternative to chip-making operations, PEM is appropriate for a range of part-making applications in medical, automotive, aerospace, tool and die and fluid power industries. The modular components of the PEM machining system allow for a variety of configurations. The primary components consist of a machine with granite frame and XYZ workspace envelope of 1.9 x 2.4 x 2.4 ft; a pulse-power supply; an electrolyte processing and supply unit; and a control cabinet with a 17-inch touchscreen monitor. Tooling is application-specific and consists of electrodes configured to the geometry to be machined, electrolytic flow chambers and workpiece holding fixture.
