First of all, I just want to kind of talk about errors and mistakes. It’s kind of a negative topic. But errors are something that happen, whether it’s in a manufacturing processes or in our own personal lives.
I have a slide and I just want to mention that errors are inevitable even by knowledgeable people. It’s not a situation where we can just blame a person for making errors. Typically, there is a process issue surrounding an error in the manufacturing process or anywhere else. Here are some kinds of things that put that in context. For example, if things are done correctly 99.9 percent of the time in cases such as at the airport, for example, that would equate two unsafe landings every day.
I’m just putting that in here because in the manufacturing process we’re talking about quite different things, but a slight error, one tenth of a percent, can be huge in terms of cost and running your business, and the financial performance of your business and profitability.
