A line of inserts has been designed for use in the Victory M1200 series of face milling cutters when machining aluminum and other nonferrous materials. The combination of these inserts and cutter bodies can be used for roughing, semi-finishing and finishing operations. According to the company, grades developed for this application combine toughness and wear resistance to allow high feed rates. The free-cutting geometry reduces power consumption. They are suitable for most machining centers when using moderate to high spindle speeds and cuts as deep as 0.18" (4.5 mm).

The inserts are available in two geometries. The LDJ geometry features rake angles designed to be free-cutting. This insert is available in two grades, THMU and a TiB2-coated TN6501.The inserts are peripherally ground and feature highly polished rake surfaces. THMU is recommended for most nonferrous materials. The TN6501 with its TiB2 coating is recommended for cutting high silicon aluminum because of the coating’s extremely low coefficient of friction. The LDJ3W geometry is a wiper-style geometry recommended when a fine surface finish is required. It features three right-hand cutting edges and three left-hand cutting edges and is offered in the THMU and TN6501 grades also.
