Fiber Laser Welding Machine Reduces Spatter, Cracking
Coherent’s CleanWeld fiber laser is said to minimize cracking and porosity and to reduce as much as 80 percent of spatter.
Coherent’s CleanWeld fiber laser is said to minimize cracking and porosity and to reduce as much as 80 percent of spatter. It also enables certain welding processes to be performed with less laser power, says the company. CleanWeld is complemented by ARM fiber laser technology.
According to the company, CleanWeld applies a variety of techniques—including intensity distribution of the focused laser spot, beam motion and controlled vapor evacuation—in order to control and maximize the stability of the keyhole and melt pool.
Applications for the fiber laser include zero-gap welding of galvanized steel, automobile powertrain component welding, and aluminum and copper welding for electric car batteries, according to the company.
