Handtmann’s HBZ Trunnion 160 horizontal machining center offers a 1,600-mm table and is the largest of the company’s HBZ series. The five-axis HMC enables complete machining of aluminum, steel and titanium workpieces ranging to 1,700 mm in diameter and 1,000 mm in height. Maximum table load is 2.8 t. Linear axis accelerations are 5 m/sec.2. Travel speeds as fast as 6 m/min. can be achieved, and axis travels measure 1,670 × 1,350 × 1,100 mm in the X, Y and Z axes. The HMC is suitable for applications in the tool-making, mold and die, machine construction, automotive, and aerospace industries.

The machine is equipped with an NC rotary-swivel table and three-point floor mounting. The horizontal configuration of the spindle keeps workpieces free from chips and provides improved surface quality. A rigid frame and high-feed forces are contained by the HMC’s compact “Powercube” structure. Because of its rigid design, the HMC can be equipped with a range of spindle options enabling optimization for various materials. The Handtmann spindle monitoring system (HSMS) monitors and optimizes processes by continuously checking key parameters such as spindle vibration and bearing temperature.

Other machines in the series include the HBZ Trunnion 80 and HBZ Trunnion 120, featuring an 800- or 1,200-mm table, respectively.
