The Exsys/Eppinger compact gear hobber system features arbor interchangeability for holding various slotting saw and gear hobber sizes. Arbor diameters are available for virtually all standard sizes of slotting saws and gear hobs. According to Exsys, tool changes can be completed in seconds by removing the yoke plate and sliding out the arbor, while the base of the toolholder remains in its station.
Built for heavy machining loads, the gear-driven system is designed for 45 Nm of torque and speeds as fast as 3,000 rpm for hobs or slotting saws as large as 2.480" in diameter. When used as a gear hobber, the system enables the generation of splines, spur or helical gears in one operation. The adjustable toolholding system for horizontal turning centers eliminates the need to rough gears on one machine and then transfer them to another for gear hobbing. With a compact design, the system operates without interrupting its neighboring toolstations in a machine turret.
