The reinvented Weldon Midas series now offers an optional multi-spindle turret wheelhead for OD, ID, face, shoulder, radius and taper grinding. Weldon Solutions redesigned this grinder from the ground up with a shear-damper base for improved stiffness, thermal and vibration control.

The turret assembly—also available on the company’s Altaira and Solaris products—features a Fibro indexer that can position the wheelhead in 1-degree increments. There are three spindle assemblies on the wheelhead turret: one with a 20" diameter by up to 4" wide straight-approach grinding wheel; the second with a 20" diameter by up to 4" wide angular-approach grinding wheel; and a third with a 120-mm spindle housing to accept a high-frequency ID grinding spindle.

The Weldon Midas utilizes linear motor technology (standard on the Z axis and optional on the X axis), provides C-axis capability for non-round grinding, and can easily perform peel grinding operations.

The Weldon Midas also offers a new heavy-duty 5" stroke hydraulic tailstock for high rigidity and programmable positioning accuracy. A gear reducer enables fine manual taper adjustments. A new enclosure design with dual front-door entry provides better operator access for reduced setup time and part handling.

The new Weldon Midas is ideal for silicon carbide substrate manufacturers supporting the electronics and semiconductor industries, aerospace applications, contract manufacturing companies, high-end job shops and die/mold shops.
