Hexagon's SurfCam 2020.0 Features Barrel Cutter Support
Hexagon’s SurfCam 2020.0 supports one of the fastest five-axis machining tools: barrel cutters.
Hexagon’s SurfCam 2020.0 now supports barrel cutters, described as one of the fastest five-axis cutting tool types. In the latest update, the software’s advanced five-axis cycle offers further gouge checking in the Swarf command, as well as the new side-tilt-by-contact-point capability. SurfCam 2020.0 also provides increased productivity for both milling and turning users, an Inspect module that includes 13 upgrades, and improved performance when either roughing or profiling a solid model.
The Deep Hole machining strategy is said to have justified the creation of its own distinct cycle in this version. The original modifiers have been improved and further control tabs have been added to the cycle, giving greater control over the tool path.
The Turning environment’s new Thread Profiling machining cycle enables users to machine complex form threads such as VAM and Acme while also providing roughing and finishing strategies for custom thread forms.
The Code Wizard enhancement feature enables users to add a secondary working spindle, supporting multitasking machines and any combination of table/head milling machines. A new Quill Command (Move Menu) is also included, enabling greater control when commanding the second working axis.
In a Finish Turning cycle, a standoff value can be defined when using Up Cut control. An XY Offset can be set when deploying the Hole Cycle’s Helical strategy, enabling users to control both surface finish and tool wear.
The SurfCam Inspect Components function for both turning and mill-turn environments has been improved with an upgraded interface. In addition, its workflow ribbon toolbar is said to improve interactivity.
The Index command now enables further positional manipulation, where an alternative angle may now be specified in order to view the components on the machine tool. The Angle To Line feature merges three previous commands into one function, enabling the Angle Direction to be specified in the Data Report.
