Sunnen’s SH-4000 power-stroked honing machine merges a Siemens touchscreen PLC and digital servo drives with a servo-hybrid tool feed system, repeatability and clear adjustable guard/light. The flexible machine handles medium to high production of parts with bore diameters ranging from 1.5 to 101.6 mm (0.060" to 4.0"). It is capable of processing a variety of part sizes and configurations and cutting a variety of materials quickly and efficiently, according to the company. The honing machine features a 4.1-kW (5-hp) spindle drive and 1.1-kW (1.5-hp) stroker drive, with stroke travel ranging to 392 mm (15.43"). Spindle speed is adjustable from 200 to 3,000 rpm, with stroke rates of 10 to 550 spm. For precise, repeatable honing in deep blind bores, the servo ballscrew stroker offers a stroke length of 392 mm (15.43").

Adjustable cutting pressure ranges to 2,224 N (500 foot-pounds), while the digital system provides feed control at low pressures for small-diameter parts. Two-step honing enables high stock removal with a precise finishing step in one operation.
