Watch High Energy Applied Technology (HEAT)
Makino demonstrates the latest techniques and technologies in High Energy Applied Technology (HEAT). HEAT smokes the Wire EDM competition in poor flushing conditions, cutting parts 35% to 50% faster while holding tolerances of form and straightness to .0002" with one roughing pass.

The results that we have came across now utilizing this technology is that we've increased our speed and accuracy on our first pass also on our second pass utilizing the ten and twelve thousandths wire. With one pass we are getting straightness's of TIR about five tenths with one pass. Those of you in the business know that that's pretty much an unbelievable feat when you are talking about thicknesses from one inch to six inch. With two passes we are total indicating (inaudible), that's one tenth per side with one trim cut, with one trim pass. We've also done this and still maintained our reliable auto threading so there is not a special wire that we are using like I mentioned in the beginning. So our reliability for auto threading doesn't decrease as some manufacturers may introduce wire for faster cutting speed but it dramatically decreases their ability to thread the wire. This is not the case with HEAT. We've also lowered our wire consumption by almost fifty percent compared to our competitors. Which again those of you who have EDM machines know the cost of wire and to save fifty percent in wire cost is a very very big statement. We've also dramatically reduced our trim cuts by almost a hundred percent and that's as a result of our first cut accuracy and so there is not a need to take a large offset trim on our trim cut. So our speed increases maybe you know it could be double maybe triple.
