R & J Tool’s indexable carbide and ceramic insert sharpening process sharpens inserts by selectively grinding material to produce a new cutting edge. According to the company, this is not downsizing—the inscribed circle is not reduced and the locating surfaces are not changed. Instead, the sharpening process takes specific customer applications into account with geometries, edge preps and coating combinations that enable the same or improved performance as a new insert, the company says. The process is available on carbide and ceramic inserts for both milling and turning applications.
