WEB EXCLUSIVE: Ineos Olefins & Polymers, Houston, and South African-based energy and chemical company Sasol (U.S. office Houston) are forming a joint venture for a world-scale HDPE plant that will utilize the Ineos Innovene S bimodal slurry technology. Location for the plant has yet to be determined but it will be capable of producing nearly 940 million lb/yr. The partners intend to produce a limited number of grades allowing for high efficiency. Andre de Ruyter, Sasol senior group executive for global chemicals and North American operations, said, “The joint venture expands on our greater North American strategy and will complement the products from the ethane cracker and derivatives project in southwest Louisiana.” The final investment decision is expected to be made in the first half of 2014 and startup of the plant is expected at the end of 2015.
