Designed for use with numerically controlled machine tools, the wireless TT449 infrared tool touch probe is suited for tilting and rotating work tables, five-axis machining centers and other applications that require unlimited movement. Without the need for a cable, the probe offers increased mobility and can be moved and remounted easily. According to the company, it provides an alternative for laser measurement systems common to five-axis machines.

The probe can be placed anywhere on a work table. Once mounted, its disk-shaped contact is deflected and the signals are transmitted to the control via an infrared light beam. The generated trigger signal is then transmitted via an SE 642 transmitter/receiver unit to the control, where it is further processed. The transmitter unit can also be used for a spindle probe. The control then saves the measured tool length and radius in the tool memory.
