This is showing a machine cell setup with our CPH system. Part of the CPH system, and obviously CPH is an option on the machines, is visual control. Now how that basically translates is on this CPH-ing machine you have an auto door option. In this particular case at a customer's facility they're running automotive parts as well. The auto door initiated a new part loading requirements for the operators. By that I mean the operators used to load two or three machines; one operator would load two or three machines in a cell. The operator would have to wait for a visual cue, which would be a stack light on top of the machine to know that a particular machine was ready for unloading for new parts to come in. Sometimes the operator's busy doing other stuff; he doesn't have the peripheral vision to see as far back as he needs to to see that stack light going off. But with these automatic doors it gives him a clear, eye-level signal that the doors open and the parts are ready to be removed from the fixture and new parts loaded on.

Also, as part of the CPH option there is no operator intervention required in order to unclamp the fixtures. In fully auto mode when these fixtures rotate out in front of the machine, prior to the doors opening, the machine automatically unclamps the part. The doors then open and then the, it gives the operator, not, or assures that the operator is ready to physically remove the part from the fixture, load a new part on, and ready to hit the, the pallet "ready" button again. There's no operator down time standing and waiting for fixtures to unclamp.

Part seated detection is used on these fixtures as well to minimize and reduce the amount of scrap that is generated. One of the parts on these two machines is a very difficult part to load. The part seated detection allows for a machine check to make sure that the part is seated on the locators prior to sending it into the work zone. If it's not seated on the locators, obviously we're in danger of running a poor quality part.

Lastly, the implementation of CPH gave the advantage to the operators that they no longer had to manually connect their hydraulic units up to fixtures in order to actuate the fixtures. So in this particular study our customer documented that we had a 40 percent reduction in overtime labor costs on this cell; he was able to get 40 percent more parts through the system by implementing CPH and utilizing it in the matters we just spoke.
