When Siemens Energy & Automation (Elk Grove Village, Illinois) acquired Siemens Motion Control about one year ago, the two companies weren't strangers to one another's technology. Indeed, the two companies' control system offerings were integrated long before the two companies were. Machine tools using the popular Acramatic 2100 CNC often employed drives and other control hardware supplied by Siemens.

Part of what made the Acramatic 2100 popular was its interface. The control offered clear and intuitive navigation that made it easy for less-experienced users to master a complex mix of control functions. That's why it's fitting that the new Acramatic 2100Di control-the first product resulting from the acquisition-keeps the interface intact, but now uses a Siemens PCU50 industrial PC. The choice of hardware makes it even easier to integrate the control with the company's various drives and I/O devices.

A variety of features makes the control easier to install and manage than previous A2100 designs. This version, for example, is much more compact. The entire unit fits behind the touch-screen panel, reducing cabinet space requirements. Also the unit can simplify cabling by connecting to drives and I/O devices using the Profibus industrial network.
