Makino’s iQ300 precision micromachining center offers improved component temperature control and 0.005-micron scale feedback for sub-micron accuracy. The machine’s thermally stable, vibration-free, high-speed spindle makes it suitable for fine detail machining and precision accuracies in micro applications, the company says.

The micromachining center features a 45,000-rpm, HSK-E32 spindle equipped with Makino’s core-cooling, under-race and jacket-spindle temperature control system to resist thermal growth, deflection and vibration, even during long periods of high-speed machining. It also is equipped with a 40-tool magazine and integrates Makino’s hybrid automatic tool-length measurement (ATLM) system to ensure microscopic blending and matching of surfaces when machining with different tools. The worktable measures 600 × 400 mm (23.6" × 15.7"), and X-, Y- and Z-axis travels measure 400 × 350 × 200 mm (15.7" × 13.8" ×  7.9"). According to Makino, the machine’s worktable and travel dimensions enable multiple setups and the use of precision chucks and vises.

The machine is equipped with Makino’s Professional 5 control and Super Geometric Intelligence (SGI.4) software. According to the company, the control is suitable for high-feed-rate, tight-tolerance machining of complex 3D contoured shapes involving continuous blocks of NC data, and can enable production rates faster than standard CNC systems.
