Uni-Max Revolution MQL (Minimum Quantity Lubrication) technology from Unist uses a technique of carefully applying small amounts of a high-quality lubricant to the interface where the cutting tool meets the material being worked. The process is said to reduce friction, remove heat and keep the part cool.

The system cuts fluid-related costs, keeps the manufacturing plant cleaner and reduces fluid-related environmental concerns by eliminating much of the waste and cleaning associated with traditional lubrication methods, the company says.

The MQL is designed to integrate seamlessly with CNC machines. The system gives users the ability to customize the lubricant output volume for each tool in a machine directly from the CNC program. It also includes an optional pulsed-air blow-off nozzle for removing chips in difficult operations, such as pocket milling. This system was developed specifically for OEM installations on CNC mills and turning centers, but can also be retrofitted on existing machines with available M-code outputs.
