Amada Machine Tool America’s S-10 twin-turret turn-mill is available with a subspindle and various options for part-loading, live spindles, turning-tool holders and more that can be selected and combined as individual modules to accommodate a range of part configurations and sizes within its 67" × 79" footprint.
The machine features an ergonomic design in which the main spindle faces the operator, and it offers a choice of gantry loading, bar feeding or manual loading. A reversing vise and the subspindle offer alternative ways to work both ends of a part in one loading. For chucked parts, the main spindle offers standard turning; indexing for multi-sided milling, drilling, boring and threading; and full C-axis continuous motion for contour milling. Featuring 8 or 12 stations, each of the machine’s twin turrets is independently capable of simultaneous, three-axis motion by coordinating with the C axis.
Modular machining heads and quick-change toolholders enable users to configure the machine for a variety of applications, the company says. Milling/drilling heads are driven by countershafts that run through the turret and are available in high-torque, X- and Z-axis versions that approach the work from perpendicular planes. An angular drilling head uses the turrets’ multi-axis motion to drill holes at angles ranging from 8 to 35 degrees from the primary machine axes. Other modular options include quick-change turning and boring toolholders that use standard Sandvik tooling as well as a polygon toolholder and cutters for multi-axis turning of flat faces.
The twin-turret configuration improves throughput, while back-side machining with cutoff capability can eliminate the need for separate setups or offline, second-operation machining, the company says. Additional features include a dedicated, on-board tool setting device, a video camera for remote monitoring, and simulation software. Various work-staging and offloading options are also available for gantry-loader and bar-feeding configurations.
