Haimer and Kennametal introduce the new modular Duo-Lock interface for carbide cutting tool heads. This modular tool system is said to provide maximum stability, load capacity and high runout precision based on a thread design with a proprietary double-cone connection and an additional third supporting area in the back of the interface.

The companies offer a new portfolio of cutting heads and mono-block screw fit tool holders with the Duo-Lock technology in all relevant spindle interfaces and extensions. Also, new modular cutting tool heads with longer length than currently available will be added to their product portfolio in order to enable shops to take aggressive cuts in aerospace and energy industry parts, the companies say.

The system provides 5-micron runout and a Z-axis accuracy of 10 microns, which is said to eliminate most of the expensive presetting processes. The companies say it offers increased metal removal rates at milling applications and longer tool life, achieving high performance comparable to latest-generation solid carbide endmills.
