Glacern Machine Tools offers its Glacern Modular Vise (GMV) designed for flexibility and fast setups in three modes. The company says that the vise can replace three conventional vises while improving machine clearances and offering a cost-effective quick-change mounting system. An interchangeable mounting pin system enables conversion from double-station to single-station use. The movable center jaw provides the choice of three index points that gives the operator as much as 1.75" of additional capacity. Removing the center jaw allows for two single-station configurations. Fixing the rear jaw creates a conventional single-station vise, while a fixed front jaw yields a reverse single-station configuration.

The mounting pins enables the operator to lock an outside jaw. Unlike convertible vises that require an external plate, the GMV maintains the same compact footprint in all modes, an advantage if table surface space is limited, the company says. Also contributing to the vise’s compact profile is the SquareDrive, a ½" socket built into a completely sealed vise screw, flush against the surface. The company says it saves space when clearances are tight and can be used with  a ½" drive wrench. A traditional leadscrew option is also available, enabling the use of a conventional vise handle or socket wrench. The vise can be equipped with Glacern’s quick-change Cage Lock system, designed for efficient zero-point mounting in a simple, cost-effective design.
