MSC Industrial Direct Co., a direct marketer and distributor of metalworking and maintenance, repair and operations (“MRO”) supplies, has announced plans to build its fifth U.S. distribution center in Columbus, Ohio. Pending final approvals, the company plans to purchase 70 acres of land and break ground on the approximately 400,000-square-foot facility later this year. It expects to complete construction and begin operation in late summer or early fall of 2014. “Columbus provided the most compelling opportunity to expand our distribution network in the most cost-effective manner,” says Doug Jones, executive vice president, global supply chain operations of MSC. “The region fits well with our existing network and provides easy access to key markets and resources, as well as a rich pool of local talent.”
