The i-150 multitasking machining center is said to combine versatility and accuracy for manufacturing small, complex components from barstock. The machine features a front-mounted, 36-tool changer; a single, horizontal main spindle with15 hp that is capable of speeds as fast as 5,000 rpm; and a C-axis control. The 6" through-hole chuck can accommodate bars as large as 2.56". A 10-hp, 12,000-rpm milling spindle is mounted in the vertical rotating B axis with a range of -10 degrees to +190 degrees. The machine can also be equipped with a 20,000-rpm spindle suited for high speed machining.

The machine’s multi-purpose part-handling device can index to an NC tailstock for shaft turning or to a vise for holding the workpiece during multi-face operations. The machine is also equipped with an unloader for automatic part removal and an automatic bar feeder for unattended machining.

The machining center is said to achieve and maintain high accuracies through several design features, including a rigid roller cam drive for the rotating B-axis that reduces backlash and friction, the company says. Both the turning and milling spindles utilize temperature-controlled circulated oil to enhance thermal stability. In addition, the milling spindle is monitored for heat, vibration and displacement.
