Macro Engineering & Technology Inc., Mississauga, Ont., has launched a new Technology Division dedicated to helping processors improve their film and sheet extrusion operations through a range of consultation and services. The division is geared towards providing technical expertise and resources to help enhance performance of any brand of blown and cast extrusion systems and web-handling machinery. The group will expand on Macro’s current service offering to include comprehensive system audits on any film or sheet extrusion system or winding operation, plus system retrofit services and troubleshooting.
The unit also offers product and process development services. Macro recently restructured so that its R&D Group is within the Technology Div., providing a resource for processors developing new products such as multilayer film structures or new processing methods to achieve desired product properties. The Technology Div. will rely on Macro’s Film Development Center, which has a mono/3-layer blown film line, a 5-layer double-bubble line, and a monolayer cast film line equipped with interchangeable casting modules (roll or water quenching). Also available through the R&D Group is comprehensive simulation software that can reduce cost and time to market for new film structures and help improve die and feedscrew design and performance. The new division is headed by technology director Dr. Felix Guberman.
