Among the 20+ machines on display at the Milacron LLC open house Apr. 24-25 in Batavia, Ohio, will be its newest additions, the all-electric Elektron 400 and 500. Also to be introduced there is the latest version of the Magna T Servo (MTs) servo-hydraulic toggle series having two features in common with the Elektron models: the new Endura Touch control with 15-in. touchscreen, and the overall look that will become universal for Milacron machines. It’s similar to the style of the Ferromatik Milacron F Series, a 160-metric-ton hybrid model of which will also be on display. Also new will be the debut of Milacron’s Interactive Technical Manual (ITM) software on the Maxima Servo two-platen servo-hydraulic line. The ITM was first introduced at NPE2012 on the MTs series. What’s more, the former PDF version of the software has been updated to an HTML version.
The open house will feature Milacron’s full line, including multi-component capabilities; LSR, which will be demonstrated on the newest Roboshot all-electric, the Alpha-SiA model, being shown for the first time in the U.S.; and a PowerPAK 550 high-speed all-electric press running a 5-gal HDPE bucket on one of the shortest cycles in the industry. Also on display will be twin-screw extrusion and structural foam—dry cycling a mammoth Uniloy 1500-ton press with four large extruders (photo).
Technical sessions will highlight multi-component molding utilizing coinjection technologies from Bemis Mfg. Co. and Mold-Masters (which Milacron recently acquired); managing energy cost—including discussion of the new energy monitor on the Endura Touch control ; and automotive weight and cost reduction. The latter topic will feature FibreTuff composites of cellulose-filled PP, developed and patented by Robert Joyce of Innovative Plastics and Molding, Sylvania, Ohio. FibreTuff reportedly can replace heavier glass-filled plastics. A fan shroud of FibreTuff will be molded at the open house. Cress Mold Technologies will discuss a heat/cool molding process using using steam as a medium to achieve smoother part surfaces and enhance flow, allowing for potentially thinner walls.
