Plunge-And-Sweep For Finishing Corners
Machining animation from Boeing illustrates effective techniques for titanium workpieces.
In this machining simulation provided by Boeing Research and Technology (using CGTech software), corners are finished through plunge-and-sweep, a technique detailed in the article under “Editor Picks” at right. One tool plunges (this part happens fast), then the next tool sweeps out from the plunged area. Boeing has found this to be the most effective way to machine small-radius internal corners in titanium.
