The QXD 200 is the newest machine to feature the company’s technology for finishing PCD (polycrystalline diamond) tools. This machine combines rotary erosion and fluting operations, using a polishing wheel to provide a mirror-like finish for a tool in a single setup. Such a finish extends tool life and improves surface finishes on machined surfaces. Six programmable axes enable users to develop innovative tool designs, while a six-position tool changer offers flexibility in the types of electrodes and polishing wheels that can be used in unattended operation. An offline simulation creates a 3D model that can be incorporated into other software packages for verification of tool geometry to be created. Modular design enables several automation options to be incorporated per tool demand.
