With the ability to rough hone, finish hone and gage with a single spindle, the ECO 80 honing machine can reduce fixturing and machining costs compared to its three-station counterparts without compromising quality, the manufacturer says. Designed for low- and medium-volume production applications, the system can finish bore sizes ranging from 10 to 80 mm. AB servomotors drive the spindle and the stroking system, and the machine’s gear-driven index table enables loading and unloading during finishing operations on another part. The machine can be fully automated or operated manually.

 

In addition to in-process gaging, an automatic tool wear compensation system is integrated into the honing spindle. Controlled by AB servomotors, this system monitors bore size and makes fine, submicron-level adjustments to compensate for tool wear and ensure accuracy. Additionally, the hydraulic expansion system coexists with the servo expansion system within the spindle, and the two systems can be actuated independent of each other. According to the company, this enables mounting two different grits of diamond tool in a single spindle.
