Manufacturers in China often use a machine tool built in the U.S. to finish critical bores. Honing technology maker Sunnen, based in St. Louis, Missouri, says the VSS Series 2 Single-Stroke Honing system features accuracy, reliability and flexibility that have made it a mainstay of Chinese manufacturing. One Chinese company purchased nearly 70 of the machines for making air conditioner parts.
Sunnen is demonstrating the machine in Booth N-7400. Incorporating up to six spindles to progressively size and finish part bores, the VSS-2 is ideal for precision sizing of bores 3.9 to 50 mm in diameter in stamped parts, valve bodies, gears, rocker arms, turbocharger housings and similar parts. Suitable materials include cast iron, powder metals, ceramic, glass, graphite and other free-cutting materials.
