CASM series servo-actuators from SKF offer electromechanical solutions for applications historically performed by conventional pneumatic cylinders. The actuators are said to reduce energy consumption, potential contamination, noise and maintenance, while avoiding the need for constantly running compressors, hoses and other components associated with pneumatic cylinders. Applications include factory automation, metalworking and machinery options, and other situations in which reliable and precise repetitive motion is required. The line includes three models: the CASM-32, CASM-40 AND CASM-63.

The servo-actuators are designed to fit standard industry footprints of pneumatic cylinders and can facilitate system conversion. Motor adapter kits enable users to connect their motor package of choice and program motor profiles. The models’ sealing systems (wiping rings and flat seals) provide IP54S protection, and a sintered filter compensates for pressure differences within the linear unit during movement. The servo-actuators are said to be capable of up to 100 percent duty cycle, and enable non-stop operation.

Load capacities range from 300 to 5,400 N and stroke lengths range from 50 to 800 mm. Depending on the model, speeds from 60 to 1,060 mm/sec. can be achieved. Lead screw or ballscrew versions can be specified, and a variety of mounting configurations are available. Full application support is available and custom solutions can be developed to satisfy particular demands.
