Bilz Tool’s model series ISG3400 ThermoGrip shrink-fit machines are available in benchtop and free-standing versions. The free-standing model features automated heat-shrink cycles and cooling cycles for hands-free operation, and the bench-top model features the same capabilities with manual operation.
According to the company, both models feature the standard range of shrink-fit tool capacity, from 3 to 32 mm for carbide and 6 to 32 mm for HSS tooling. The free-standing machine can be expanded up to 50 mm with quick-change ThermoGrip coils. The machines are said to be capable of a shrink-fit process of 45 sec. or less depending on the tool style and size. Both are available in 480-V, three-phase electrical power, eliminating the need for an external transformer/generator.
A direct-shower cooling process cools tools to room temperature while in the heating position. Uniform cooling of the assembled tool maintains tool TIR and concentricity. According to the company, toolholder sweating due to condensation is avoided.
