This titanium fan blade is fully dense and measures 30 inches tall, showing the growing build chamber sizes of powder-bed fusion systems. The part was grown in four days.
3D printing made it possible to manufacture this topology-optimized gooseneck bracket for an aerospace application. This design integrates three parts into one, and reduces the weight of the overall bracket by 31 percent.
This rocket combustor offers improved functionality as the result of 3D printing, which enabled incorporating internal cooling channels that could not have been machined.
Powder-bed fusion is an impressive additive manufacturing (AM) process to watch, but to really understand the promise of metal AM, look at the parts it produces.
