“Nebenzeit” is German for non-productive time. Emag calls its VL 2 P two-spindle inverted vertical turning center the “Nebenzeit Killer” thanks to its capacity to maximize the amount of productive material-removal time within the machining cycle. As the machine is an inverted vertical, the spindle itself moves to the parts queue to retrieve workpieces. Having two spindles able to do this means one spindle can be unloading a part and clamping the next part while the other spindle is engaged in machining. As a result, load/unload time is essentially zero. The machine, with capacity for parts as large as 100 mm diameter, can be seen in Booth N-6846.
