Emuge's Z-Tap line is designed with an advanced chamfer geometry and rake/flute form for use with stainless steel, high-strength alloys, tool steels and cast steels of 30 HRc and below. The company's GLT-1 multi-layered coating is said to produce consistent, controllable chip formation, releasing chips smoothly and efficiently. The coating's heat-resistant characteristics combine with an outer anti-friction layer to produce high wear resistance and sliding properties that are said to improve tool life, reduce torque, and optimize chip evacuation and thread finish.

The number of flutes on the taps and the shortened thread section reduces friction while lower cutting torque avoids tap breakage, enabling higher cutting speeds. The taps are available in through-hole and blind hole designs for thread lengths as long as 3×D. Blind hole taps offer two chamfer designs: a full bottoming (1.5 to 2 threads) and a modified bottoming (2 to 3 threads) version. A DIN length is available for improved chip clearance in hard-to-reach tapping applications. A full line of sizes ranging from no. 4 to 3/4" are available in UNC, UNF, and metric fine and coarse. The company recommends the taps be used on CNC machines with synchronous spindles using emulsion coolant lubrication and synchronous tap holders such as its Softsynchro holder.
