Testers Identify Twists During Shaft Production
STT 100 and 150 shaft twist testers from Matesy use grazing laser lights to visualize twist structures on shaft surfaces during production.

“Twist” is the screw-thread-like structure caused by material abrasion during shaft fabrication. It can affect the tightness of shaft sealings and cause increased mechanical wear of the sealing.
In standard tactile (touching) measurement, such as profile or “thread” methods, the shaft must be taken out of the production process to determine whether or not there is a twist structure. Shaft twist testing can be done directly in the production process, reducing costs and increasing productivity.
The handheld checking device is said to offer flexibility and quality assurance. The laser light is directed on the surface of the test object and a stray light image provides instant feedback on the existence of a twist in the structure.
