Tool Positioning System VDI Reduces Setup Time
The Eppinger Trifix tool positioning system from Exsys enables quick and accurate exchanges of both static and driven tooling for multitasking machines.
The Eppinger Trifix tool positioning system from Exsys enables quick and accurate exchanges of both static and driven tooling for multitasking machines. According to the company, the positioning system can reduce setup time as much as 80 percent because of the improved VDI. The system provides positioning accuracy within 10 micrometers between tool stations and single-position repeatability of less than 5 micrometers at a tool length of 3.9" (100 mm). Tooling can be mounted with four additional hold-down screws to maximize rigidity in operations with heavy chip loads, such as milling, while also accommodating the use of other tooling. According to Exsys, after the tool positioning unit is initially aligned in the lathe turret, no further adjustment is necessary for tool changes. Tools can be preset off the machine, further reducing setup time.
