To enable high feed rates and high accelerations on big machines, the company’s transport mechanism for large telescopic steel covers enables speeds between 62 and 98 fpm. According to the company, the transport mechanism eliminates high limit stop forces and corresponding noises in all operational positions, moving smoothly when the covers are pulled apart as well as when they come together. The company says test runs at speeds exceeding 328 fpm and accelerations exceeding 1G were trouble-free. Because the system is not positively driven, it doesn’t have to move the entire mass of a cover. Depending on the length of the stroke, the only boxes moved are the ones that are needed. The mechanically muffled units travel on guides which provide high stability.
