The Honor Seiki VL-160 turning center is built with extra-wide vertical columns and a base composed of Meehanite casting. It comes standard with a four-jaw, 63" manual chuck; a power actuator; and a turning diameter of 78.7". It is built for turning of large workpieces weighing as much as 17,600 lbs. The machine’s spindle construction uses a zero-backlash, roller gear, cam-drive design to transfer more usable power to the spindle. The 75-hp, high-torque, Fanuc spindle motor (100-hp optional) is directly coupled to a two-speed ZF gearbox, transmitting power through the drive system to produce 25,000 Nm of torque (45,000 Nm optional).

The turning center uses C3 precision ballscrews to position the X and Z box ways. The 9.85" × 9.85" Z-axis ram is made from cast steel, which incorporates a precision-ground curvet coupling and reverse style, T-type, pull stud for rigid tool clamping. The cross rail is fully programmable in four 7.87" increments, and it is positioned by precision-ground, taper lock pins with repeatability of 0.00039" and hydraulically clamped in two plains.
