The L500LMA series of turning centers from Hyundai-Wia is suitable for heavy-duty cutting. Featuring a chuck size of 21", the series fills the gap between the company's L400 (15" chuck) and L600 (24" chuck) series.
With a through-hole of 181 mm (7.1"), the main spindle is built with accuracy and rigidity in mind. Double-row precision roller bearings in the rear and angular bearings at the front of the spindle promote cutting accuracy at spindle speeds of 1,500 rpm at 40 hp, producing 2,990 foot-pounds of torque. A spindle oil chiller is used to maintain ambient temperature of the structure. The built-in MT no. 5 tailstock quill taper has a quill diameter of 132 mm (5.2"). The machines are equipped with powerful box guideways, including a wide X-axis guideway for precise and rigid heavy cutting. The X- and Z-axis travels measure 400 × 2,210 mm with XY rapid traverse rates of 20 m/min. and 18 m/min., respectively. The series uses a FANUC 32i-B controller.
The turning centers can also be equipped with include a larger spindle unit, an extra-long bed and Y-axis capability. Options include special-purpose chip conveyors, a high-pressure coolant system and part probing.
