Mitsui Seiki will display its VGE60A high-precision universal vertical thread grinder, providing a variety of grinding options for the manufacture of precision lead screw-type parts. In addition to thread grinding the machine can perform spline, gear, OD, surface, and edge grinding operations in a single setup, saving production time and improving part accuracy. The machine accommodates a maximum grinding length of 600 mm and an overall shaft size of 80 mm in diameter (with the largest-diameter wheel) and 700 mm in length. An automatic grinding wheel changer, an automatic wheel guard and a CNC wheel dresser (to accommodate differently shaped wheels) further increase productivity. Programmable grinding wheel tilt angles ranging from +45 to -90 degrees also expand grinding application opportunities. The vertical orientation of the work improves overall precision by eliminating workpiece “sag” and requires less floor space than a similar capacity horizontal grinder. The machine is compatible with both oil- and water-based coolants.
