Video: The Role of Heat in High Speed Machining
In high speed machining of die/mold steels, the heat has a more beneficial effect than the role it plays in conventional cuts.
In high speed machining of hard steels, heat has a plasticizing effect that can benefit the cut. This effect is basic to high speed machining in die/mold applications. In the video from Expert Technical Training, animation illustrates the effect of heat in conventional milling and how this contributes to work hardening, versus the helpful effect of heat in climb milling at faster spindle speeds and feed rates.
