Republic Lagun's 4020 vertical machining center offers rigidity and stability, along with FANUC control and automated robot compatibilities. The modular VMC features Meehanite castings and a heavily ribbed construction for dimensional stability, wear resistance and vibration damping in order to more quickly perform heavy cutting of complex parts with three-, four- or five-axis interpolations. Rectangular boxways on all three axes include friction-free Turcite liners and are hardened and ground to provide a large contact surface area, damping and rigidity.
The VMC provides an 8,000-rpm, direct-drive, CT 40/BT 40 taper spindle with an air-purged spindle head. The 15-hp motor achieves 73 foot-pounds of torque at 1,500 rpm for rapid traverse rates of 1,000 ipm and cutting feed rates ranging to 400 ipmIn addition to automatic lubrication, the flood coolant system provides a 60-gallon capacity with flow rates of 21 gpm. Other features include a 24-tool automatic toolchanger, 2,200 lbs of tool clamping force and a table load capacity of 1,100 lbs. The automation-friendly FANUC 0i-Model D controller supports eight axes in total and as many as four axes in simultaneous interpolation. A high-speed Ethernet interface enables integration into a network for part program transfers and process-related data collection, as well as remote troubleshooting.
Options include 10,000- and 12,000-rpm spindles, fourth and fifth-axis capabilities, extended Z-axis travel, a 32-tool ATC, coolant-through spindle, and explosion-proof construction for machining hazardous materials.
