Editor's Commentary

CNC tool grinding is more consistent.

Also, CNC tool grinders aren’t just faster than manual machines, they make better tools. For one thing, computer control is considerably more consistent than a human operator, so you get much more consistency in your end product.  For example, you’ll get consistent tooth spacing, diameters and radii, which means each tooth will cut evenly. With a manually ground tool, inconsistencies introduced create extra stress on individual teeth and the tool will not last as long.

CNC tool grinding produces finer finishes with tougher materials.

CNC grinding generally produces finer finishes and allows you to use tougher tool materials.  It also allows for better wheels and cutting speeds and so forth.

CNC tool grinding offers better coolant.

CNC tool grinders offer much better coolant options than manual machines – which are often dry – and this prevents heat damage to the cutting edge.  CNC grinders typically have a wet grinding cabinet around them enabling a high coolant flow which can be placed in the cutting area.  By doing this, we remove the heat from the cutting edge as we grind the tool. Also, with high pressure wheel-opening options that are available, wheel life can be extended and cutting speeds increased.

CNC tool grinding enables complex new geometries.

Plus the latest CNC tool grinders feature flexible software that enables complex new geometries that offer additional benefits, as you can see from the examples on the screen.
